Philippa Buddle
Massey University (Palmerston North)
South Africa 2012

Describe your Volunteer Project:

The volunteer project was based in Swaziland. We worked in conservation of the government owned game park. I absolutely loved the project. We stayed in tents and had very basic supplies. The shower had a view that looked out across an entire game park, you could spot the giraffes! One of the most amazing experiences of my life. Meeting the locals and experiencing Africa first hand—couldn’t have asked for more!

How has your ISV experience influenced your future?

ISV completely changed my future. Before going on this trip I did not know what I wanted to do with my degree when I finish. I now know that I want to work in Africa conservation, it’s just where I want to be.

Why should people volunteer abroad?

It’s such an incredible life changing experience. You learn so much about other cultures and countries, meet amazing people and get to do things you never imagined.
