Raven on her ISV program in Australia

The Alumni Spotlight highlights the achievements and stories of ISV alumni and Student Representatives. This weekly feature showcases these participants and their life-changing experience from around the world. ISV knows that volunteers make a difference, and is pleased to recognize the achievements of these outstanding university students!

This week’s Alumni Spotlight is on:

Raven LaBillois
University of New Brunswick
Australia 2011

Describe your volunteer project:

During my two-week volunteer project, we helped with conservation work with a group called Conservation Volunteers Australia. We helped pull invasive weeds, cut invasive trees, put in irrigation and spent a few days with a family in the rainforest helping them with their property.

What was the most memorable moment of your ISV Program?

The whole trip was memorable! I loved scuba diving and night bungee jumping. The friends I made, however, will stay with me forever.

What was your favorite thing about your host country?

Australia is a very laid-back country. Everyone was very friendly and happy. They take care of their land so well, and it is very inspiring.

"I learned so many new things, met so many new people and made so many new memories that I will never forget." - Raven

Why should people volunteer abroad?

It opens your eyes to so many new things. It really makes you realize how much we are all alike, but how we are all different. It is just a great opportunity.
