Randy Sykes, ISV Founder and International Director, receives the Youth First Award at WYSTC 2012

Congratulations! Randy Sykes, ISV’s Founder and International Director, received the Youth First International Award at the World Youth and Student Travel Conference (WYSTC) in San Diego on Friday September 20, 2012.

The award was offered by the Student Youth Travel Association and the SYTA Youth Foundation, in partnership with the WYSE Travel Confederation, and was announced at the Global Travel Awards Luncheon which recognized outstanding performance in youth travel in the past 12 months. This inaugural award is given to an individual or organisation that demonstrates a commitment to enriching students’ lives through travel and contributing to the advancement of our industry through volunteer activities, community service or education.

In front of hundreds of conference attendees, including some of ISV’s program partners from around the world, Randy was asked to accept this award in recognition of his personal contribution to the youth and student travel movement over the past 35 years.

As a result of Randy’s passion and dedication to youth travel, tens of thousands of students from around the world have participated in programs from the Performance Arts and Cultural Exchange, to Adventure Travel and Volunteering.

ISV has been attending the WYSTC conference since 2006, and Randy has served on the board of WYSE Work Abroad for a three year term and was instrumental in starting the Volunteer Work Group which he chaired this past year.

Since 2002, ISV has operated volunteer and travel programs for nearly 30,000 university and high school students and we are looking forward to the future and continuing with our mission to help make the world a better place through our programs. The award was a wonderful surprise and well-deserved in our view, and we (all ISV staff) are very proud of your achievements as we carry ISV’s collective vision forward. Well done Randy!
