Adolfo helping on tour

Adolfo Ramirez, ISV’s Dominincan Tour Director, loves helping participants get outside their comfort zones during the action-packed Adventure Tour (c) ISV

If you’ve been on an ISV adventure tour in the Dominican Republic (DR), chances are your leader was Dominican born and raised, Adolfo Ramirez.  Lucky for you too, as tour leaders don’t come any better than Adolfo!

Adolfo has led more tours than any other tour leader in ISV history, and also serves as ISV’s Tour Director in the DR, overseeing the implementation and logistics of the itinerary and our relationships with all local tour activities, transport and accommodation operators.

Fondly known by ISV participants as “Tarzan of the Laguna Dudu” (aka, “The Blue Hole”)- use your imagination and you can guess why, Adolfo is also known for his incredible local knowledge which he passionately shares with students, his amazing smile, adventurous spirit and his warm and friendly nature.  Most of all, Adolfo is known for being a terrific role model for ISV participants as he safely guides them while facing their fears when they go surfing, caving, canyoning, windsurfing, snorkelling, horseback riding, whitewater rafting and more! The DR adventure tour is perhaps the most active of all of ISV’s adventure tours, with activities every single day to get and keep the adrenaline pumping!

Adolfo was hired by ISV in the summer of 2005 as a Tour Leader and has since led 40+ ISV student groups (nearly 1,000 students in total). He’s also served as a mentor and trained numerous other guides, helped with a lot of our volunteer program set-up and has also served as a project leader at the Blue Moon community development and children’s education project. Prior to joining ISV, Adolfo led cycling and hiking excursions up to the highest elevation in the Caribbean and has also led groups of volunteers to help Haitian refugees near his home in Cabarete.

ISV participants may not know that Adolfo is an accomplished surfer and he regularly visits his local break at Playa Encuentro. This is where you’ll find some beginner waves (part of the ISV Optional Activity Package) and when the surf’s pumping, some terrific rides to be found out the back (that’s where you’ll find Adolfo)!  He’s also an experienced windsurfer which is the reason that he calls Cabarete (one of the world’s best windsurfing locations) his home.  Like nearly all Dominicans, he is a mad-keen baseball player too!

If you have the great fortune to meet Adolfo you can instantaneously tell how passionate he is about his country, and also how proud he is as the father of his young son.
