The ISV Eastern Europe Experience

Experience the rich history, majestic scenery and vibrant culture of Croatia, Romania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Slovenia

Eastern Europe is a dynamic region with a kaleidoscope of cultures and environments, from magnificent castles and medieval towns to towering mountains and vast forests. Spend your summer in this breathtaking corner of the world and soak up more history, culture and adventure than you can imagine!

As you volunteer, your efforts will positively impact a region with a long history of conflict and adversity. You may find yourself helping to build a school or park for an entire community, assisting at an educational summer camp or orphanage, protecting threatened brown bears, or assisting with habitat restoration.

Adventure tour activities may include hiking in the Slovenian Alps, kayaking, mountain biking, hydrospeeding, rock climbing, canyoning, caving and a 7 day sailing adventure through Adriatic islands along the Dalmatian Coast. Explore medieval towns, quaint rural villages and idyllic beaches, as well as the exciting city culture of Ljubljana, Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik.

First 2 weeks
Projects make a difference in the lives of children & protect natural resources

• Protecting endangered brown bears in Croatia
• Leading arts & crafts, sports and recreational activities for children
• Assisting at summer camps, community centers and orphanages
• Heritage and habitat restoration in Bosnia and Herzegovina
• Building schools & playgrounds in Romania, Bosnia & Herzegovina
• Promoting wildlife conservation and environmental awareness
• Development of sustainable tourism initiatives
• Teaching children in Romania and Croatia

Adventure Tours

Second 2 weeks
Explore Eastern Europe from the Slovenian Alps to the Dalmatian coast of Croatia

• A 7 day island-hopping adventure on a private ISV boat
• Caving in underground karstic systems
• Mountain biking around Lake Bled and Bovec
• Discovering the ancient cities of Zagreb and Dubrovnik
• Rock climbing on limestone cliffs around Omis
• Canyoning in the Cetina River gorge
• Visiting cascades and waterfalls at Plitvice Lakes National Park
• A 2 day kayaking adventure on the Zrmanja River
