Experience the vibrant culture and rich landscapes of Thailand
Thailand has more than 100 National Parks and rainforests more ancient than the Amazon . However, like many other countries, natural areas continue to face threats such as habitat destruction and species loss due to increased human pressures such as agriculture and development. Natural resources such as timber and wildlife are exploited for short term gain rather than conserved for long term sustainability. Wildlife in particular continues to be poached for meat or skins, domesticated as pets, or illegally traded on black markets. Fragmented and shrinking habitats further complicate conservation strategies in Southeast Asia. ISV needs the help of volunteers to support our partner organizations in Thailand who are operating rescue and rehabilitation centers for elephants, gibbons and other animals.

Thailand is a developing nation where many people still live in desperate conditions. People from hill tribe and refugee communities, often do not have the same rights as Thai people; many are marginalized and disadvantaged, with limited access to medical care, education and other government social services. Additionally, many Thai people still survive on subsistence agriculture and fishing in the most remote parts of the country. The wealth and development of Thailand’s cities and tourist areas often hides these realities. Rural and remote communities continue to lack basic infrastructure, and ISV is motivated in our work to partner with local organizations that are giving a voice to these communities and helping build their communities sustainably.

Thailand’s children have many different faces. In addition to Thais by birth, they include refugees from Myanmar (Burma) and children from hill tribe ethnic minority groups such as Lisu, Lahu and Karen. Some children in Thailand face very difficult futures, at risk from human trafficking, child labor, poverty, lack of education, malnutrition, drug addiction and more. Orphaned, disadvantaged, and abandoned children need protection, education, healthy nutrition and of course, love and nurturing. By volunteering in Thailand, you will help build a better future for children in an environment where human rights are respected in safe environments, driven by hope.
