About Fundraising

Each year, thousands of students raise funds to help pay for their ISV Program. Fundraising is a great way to help finance your ISV Program and can also help you develop personal skills. Fundraising is not easy- it takes time, energy and above all persistence. However, if you start early and follow ISV's guidelines, you'll be well on your way to financing your trip!

Start with People you Know

Begin fundraising by starting off with people you know. Make a list of every potential sponsor: aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, friends and co-workers. You never know who will be willing to assist you in your cause. Discuss your trip in person with your sponsor(s) if possible.

Once you are confirmed on the ISV program, ISV will provide you with a letter you can send out explaining the opportunity you have to volunteer on an international level and your request for donations to assist you. 

Once you have sent the letter to your friends, family, co-workers and the rest of your greater network - start researching businesses and business owners who may also help you. Research the name of the business owner and send them a personalized letter.

When the Going Gets Tough...

The most common mistake is giving up after your first letdown. Do not give up after being turned down- persistence is crucial and there are plenty of people to ask. There will be many "No's", and it might take a while for you to get the hang of fundraising, but remember- to receive you must ask.

Say "Thank You"

Remember to thank everyone who sponsors you and assure them that their donation is well invested. Begin with a positive attitude and keep it throughout this process, and you will be off to a great start to financing your ISV Program.
